To move forward, step back.
This September, New York City public schools welcomed 18,000 children living in temporary shelters, as families seek asylum. Schools are changing, and there is great potential in the complexity and diversity that lies ahead.
In a city where 14% of students are learning English, 20% have an identified disability and 72% are classified as economically disadvantaged, it is easy to get lost in the details of mandates and lose sight of the individuals in the room with us.
Sometimes a fresh perspective is exactly what we need to identify our next steps. At Read the Room Inc, we offer solutions for school and classroom culture-setting that accommodate and celebrate linguistic, cognitive, and cultural diversity. We prioritize the social and emotional needs of students and teachers to create spaces where mutual respect fosters a love of learning and a culture of growth and development.
